You should try to attached the looped screws into an area of the wall that is solid like a two by four. Avoid gas lines and other electrical area.

You can use a drill the slightly smaller than the size of the screw to get it started, however. Then screw the screw into the wall and make sure that it is tight. You should then attach a s-hook to the loop part of the screw. Next make sure that hammock can hang in the areas in which you plan to place it. If the hammock has spreader bars, it must be hung so the weight is distributwed evenly. If the area is too large, you can use a chain or sturd rope to make up the distance. Next attach the hammock to the chain, rope, or S-hook.

Outdoor Hammocks

If you are hanging the hammock outdoors, you should select two trees that are the appropriate distrance apart. You can also use a side of a deck as one or both sides of the area for the hammock. If you are using trees, make sure they are sturdy enough. There are two ways to attach the hammock to the tree. First by drilling and screwing the screw with the circle on top into the tree. How you will need to attach the gutter hangers by fastening them to the fascia about every 24 inches. To do this, use one and one-quarter, deck screws, placing them approximately one-inch from the end of the roof. The reason is that the gutters will have better support on both ends. The gutter corners will now be attached, making sure you use the ones without a downspout and not at the end of the run.

For your next step, you will need to attach the cut gutters and end of gutter run. You can use a hacksaw to help them fit in snugly between the downspout outlet and the end of your roof. You want this to start at the middle of the downspout outlet, to the roof�s end. Once that is done, you will place the end cap, snapping the section securely into the downspout outlet. Then, the gutter will need to be hooked into the hangar. Now, the other sections will be cut so they can fit between the downspout outlets, again starting from the middle of the outlet.

Now to connect the gutter sections with the connectors, this can be done best on the ground. Simply snap the connectors onto the sections and remember if the run is less than 35-feet, the end cap will need to be attached without an outlet. For the next step of hanging the gutters, you need to get the help of a friend or two. The drainpipe will now be attached once the gutters are up. To do this, cut a piece of pipe again making sure it fits between the downspout elbow, going onto the outlet and the elbow of the downspout on the wall. The elbows will then be put onto the pipe, snapping it onto the outlet. To secure the other elbow to the wall of the home, you can use a drainpipe hanger.

Finally, you will need to install the drainpipe. To accomplish this, cut one more piece of drainpipe, again making it to fit between the elbow and wall, placing about one-foot above ground level. The drainpipe will then be snapped into the elbow�s top portion, attaching second elbow to the bottom section. With another drainpipe hanger, fasten it to the lower portion of the elbow. Then, as a way of funneling the water away from the home�s foundation, you want to cut a piece of pipe.

For the roof, you want six posts for support, consisting of a single, short post located at the center, which would help provide support to the main girder.

The most important thing to remember when building a gazebo is that the ground must be completely level. To accomplish this, after you have located the center of the location, drive a stake into the ground to mark it. Next, on to of the stake, you want to drive a nail, leaving it to protrude about one inch to serve as a pivot point. You now want to cut a piece of lumber five feet long, drilling a hole into the end of each so they are 55 1/2-inches apart. One of these holes will be fitted over the protruding nail and then another nail will be secured face down into the other end. Therefore, the best option is to determine first the purpose your gazebo will serve so you know the size needed as well as functionality. Obviously, if you want a place where you can place benches and tables, keep your barbecue grill, and perhaps have enough floor room to dance, then you are looking at a large gazebo while just a place with a swing would only require simple design.

To purchase all the necessary equipment and materials, simply visit your local hardware or home improvement store, or lumberyard.

Prefabricated shelves provide a solution that is sturdy, portable, adjustable, and easy and quick to install. The best option for garage storage in relation to prefabricated shelves is steel. Many people think that they should only purchase the steel shelves if they have heavier items to store when in fact, steel should be the option of choice regardless how heavy or light the items. Although plastic shelves cost less, ultimately they will break down quicker than steel. For fabricated shelves, consider the various types of things you plan to store. Additionally, you need to determine an area within the garage where the steel shelves will be located, taking careful measurements since this type of shelving cannot be cut down to size. This means when you shop for steel shelves, you will find standards sizes from which to choose.

Prefabricated shelving is also rated according to the weight it can accommodate. These ratings range from lightweight, perfect for storing the family’s Christmas tree, sports equipment, or other boxed storage that does not weigh much, to heavy-duty, which would include items such as paint, sacks of concrete, heavy tools, and so on. If you like, you can run additional 2×4-foot pieces of lumber horizontally on the edge between the uprights and then use particleboard or plywood for the shelves. Generally, the shelves measure from 18 to 24 inches deep and are spaced along the horizontal 2×4-foot lumber. Another excellent option is rafter-hung shelves. For this option, 2×4-foot lumber is bolted to the sides of the rafters as a way of forming overhead support. This framework can be left open for storing items that are long such as ladders or snow skis, or you can add plywood to create the shelves. One advantage of this option is that not as much floor space is used. Additionally, because this option is hung, you can adjust the height to accommodate any vehicle needing to be parked in the garage

There is something very magical about owning a garden pond. Just be sure if creating a barrel pond on your apartment balcony that you find out first the weight restrictions.

When creating a pond in your backyard, be sure the drainage holes (if you choose to have one) always flow away from the house. The best option is to use a pump that re-circulates the water, especially if you plan to have fish in the pond. You should also use a filter to keep the water clean and make sure the pump and any lighting is submersible. By using these few things, the maintenance of the pond will decrease and the amount of time available to enjoy it will increase.

Making ponds is not a difficult task and the results are truly amazing. You will find that you spend more time outdoors away from the television just to watch the fish and listen to the sound of the water.

Brick and Mansonry

Many people are intimidated about laying their own Brick & Masonry. However, with the right knowledge, you can learn to complete great projects. Bricks have been a part of building for thousands of years and while they were first made from clay, today, the materials have been improved upon to include ceramic and silica. Other versions now include clay, sand, and water, which are all heated to produce the hardness needed for building.

The great thing about bricks is that they work to help insulate a home and, they are weatherproof. They can withstand the harshest heat and cold, wind, rain, and they do not fade. Additionally, the options for bricks today include wonderful colors, shapes, and sizes. This means that regardless of your project, you can choose something unique to make a statement or stick with a more traditional brick. The following are the various types of bricks available:
Building � Also called Structural bricks, these are the type used for construction. Typically, these bricks have two or three holes, which work to reduce weight load and cut down on cost of material.

Face � This type of brick is solid and come in a number of great colors, shapes, and sizes

Firebrick � The nice thing about this type of brick is that they are heat resistant and used for anything heat-sensitive such as a fireplace.

Pavers � The paver brick is what you use for edging, patios, and sidewalks

Antique/Tumbled � If you want to create something with an antique look, this would be the type of brick to choose
Bricks also come in varying grades. For example, the Grade SW stands for Severe Weathering, which can handle freeze and thaw cycles found in many regions. The Grade MW stands for Moderate Weathering, which can handle temperatures of frost to freezing. This grade is what you will find in many outdoor walls. Finally, the last grade is No Weathering, which is not intended for outdoor use, just indoor construction.

Laying brick is actually easier than you might think. The key to a successful brick-laying job is to take your time. Remember, just like anything new, all you need is a little practice and understanding of load-bearing aspects. If you need to change the size of shape of a brick, you can use a special chisel and hammer. Another option is to use a circular saw or a brick saw that has a diamond blade.

When buying brick, you can estimate how much you will need by following these guidelines:

For each square foot, you will need five standard size bricks. For a wall, you should expect that you would need seven per square foot. If you buy per pallet, there should be 516 bricks and for pavers, 896. The main thing is to remember that if you are just starting out, you will make mistakes but do not stress in that mistakes can be corrected. Most home improvement and hardware stores sell helpful books that provide step-by-step diagrams to help you complete your project.

Everyone loves to brick barbeque. Regardless of the weather, hot, humid, rain, or snow, grilling food is not only fun, but also healthy and tasty. The great thing about a barbeque pit is that it will last for many years, is easy to clean, and provides the perfect setting for a friend or family gathering. Constructing a brick fireplace is an excellent project and one that several people can get involved with building. This type of barbeque grill provides a lot more space for grilling meat, poultry, or vegetables and is an impressive feature for your backyard. Other excellent benefits are that a Brick Barbeque is both durable and weather resistant.

Brick Barbeques can be built out of brick with mortar or with brick without mortar. If you decide to use mortar, you will find your barbeque to be extra durable and permanent. If you build it without mortar, while still durable, it will not be as durable. Additionally, if you moved and decided you wanted to take your barbeque with you, it could be broken down and moved. A great advantage of a Brick Barbeque is that it is easy to use and not terribly expensive. When your Brick Barbeque is complete, your backyard will be everyone’s favorite house for cooking outdoors.

For this particular example, we will be talking about a Brick Barbeque built with mortar. To get started, you will need several tools and materials to get the job done. You need barbeque grills, fire grates, ashtrays, pointed trowel, chalk line, dry-mix brick mortar, builder’s square, level, SW-grade bricks, Z-shaped metal ties, and a 7″ x 3/8″ rebar (24 pieces). Additional items include a cutting board, brackets, and fluted masonry nails.

To build your barbeque, purchase the needed materials at a hardware or home improvement store. Depending on the size of grills and grates chosen, you will know how large your barbeque will need to be. Start by determining the number of bricks needed. The average barbeque measures 13 courses high, which are layers of bricks. Once you know how many bricks you need, you will want to determine where your grill will be located and you want your grill to be built on a concrete or brick platform. Other considerations include the direction in which the barbeque grill is facing so when grilling, smoke will flow the correct way.

Once the position is determined, you will mark it using the chalk. Then using the pointed trowel, you will spread on a layer of mortar onto the base without going outside the chalk line. The first layer of bricks then goes on, creating your first course. To the sides of each of these bricks, spread on mortar and then back the bricks up to one another. Using the same process, continue building all the courses to 13 layers. Use the level to ensure each course is level as it is being laid and the builders-square, making sure the corners are at a 90-degree angle. On each of the odd numbered courses, you need to set the Z-shaped metal ties into mortar, distributing them evenly. Be sure to put the Z-shaped ties in varying locations throughout each course.

For each side of the wall, you should use three bricks wide each. Before you place a vertical tier on the bricks, set four rebars on each side as a way of supporting the grate. The same process will also be used to install the rebars on the ninth and twelfth course, which provides enough room for two racks. For the top course, you need to lay the inner row with the narrow side facing out (stretcher) and the outer row laid with the short side (header). You can check with your local hardware or home improvement store, which usually has diagrams that are exceptionally easy to follow.

Awnings

Awnings have been a way of providing shade for patios and decks for years. With an awning, you can block both sunlight and heat from beating down through a patio door or provide you with shade while relaxing outside on a lazy Saturday afternoon. You will also find that awnings can make a great window topper and used as a way of protecting furniture and rugs from directly sunlight, which can cause fading.

In fact, during the hot summertime, by using an awning to block out heat, you can save as much as 65% off your energy bill on windows facing south and as high as 77% on windows facing east and west. Awnings are also great protectors for woodwork around windows. Typically, as the sun shines down on the wood day after day along with the rain and snow, the wood can become warped and rot. However, by using an awning, the woodwork is protected.

An awning will also add protection for outdoor furniture on your patio or deck, let you open your windows during a mid-summer rainstorm, reduce glare on computer screens and televisions, and best of all, they add a nice decorative touch to the aesthetics of the home.

You will discover that awnings are typically made from fabric or aluminum. The awnings made from fabric do require a little more maintenance than an aluminum awning but also offer a better variety of color and shape. Aluminum awnings are low maintenance, sturdy, and provide a retro look.

The nice thing about awnings regardless of material is that they are both designed to withstand high winds and harsh weather. Although a tornado or hurricane may be too much, you can feel confident that most high winds will not damage the awning. When deciding the size of awning to buy, it really boils down to your personal preference. However, you also want to consider the amount of energy you want to save.

For example, if you will be adding an awning on windows facing east or west, you want to have a drop ranging from 65% to 75%. For awnings going up on south-facing windows, you want the drop to be shorter, ranging from 45% to 60% coverage. Just remember that window and door canopies are versatile in that they can be installed with or without side panels.

Additionally, rollup and retractable awnings are an excellent choice in that they block out the sun during the hot, summer months but then allow the warm sun to shine in during the winter. The larger the awning, the more protection you will achieve and if you plan to install the awning on your patio or deck, the retractable model is the most convenient.
